Staying Safe while Riding in Traffic
Commuting by bike can be enjoyable, but be sure to keep yourself safe
using the following tips:
- Give right-of-way to vehicles. Right or wrong are bigger than you.
- Only use your rear brakes and turn slowly when going through gravel.
when going through gravel.
- Slow down and steer straight if you ride over something slick until
you get through it.
- Wear bright colors to help catch the eye of motorists and pedestrians.
- Try using a blinking tail light at all times, even during the day.
- Use reflectors on your bike and reflective tape or a vest with light
colored apperal after dusk. Lights alone do not make you visible enough
at night to traffic.
- Buy a handlebar headlamp for riding at in the dark to be seen by oncoming
traffic and help you to see where you are going.
